Occupational Therapy is the unique, client-centred profession that aims to promote health and well-being through meaningful occupations.

Paediatric Occupational Therapists facilitate holistic interventions in the areas of play, self-care and school. We wholeheartedly believe in supporting children and enabling them to reach their full potential. When recommended, early intervention is key to consolidate a child’s foundational capacities.

These are some of the following areas that are focused on in OT, depending on your child’s individual profile:

    1. Play and social skills
    2. Self-confidence
    3. Fine motor skills
    4. Gross motor skills
    5. Visual perception
    6. Core strength and postural control
    7. Sensory integration
    8. Handwriting
    9. Attention and concentration
    10. Anxiety
    11. Difficult behaviours

The DIR model is something we are very passionate about at Tayla Jayde OT. The heart of Floortime is connecting with children on their level, tapping into their world of interests and using relationships to facilitate developmental growth.

“Developmental difficulties require developmental solutions. Dr Greenspan and Dr Wieder developed an integrated bio-psycho-social framework to profile typical development, which became a guide for assessment and interventions for individuals with special needs. The Developmental, Individual Difference, Relationship-based Model identifies the functional emotional developmental milestones that integrate emotional and intellectual development.” – Dr. S. Greenspan & Dr. S. Wieder (Profectum).

Not only do interventions have to be tailored to the unique profile of the child but depend on relationships as the vehicle for learning and affect to engage and give meaning to experiences. This framework provides the anchor for a comprehensive intervention approach that changes as the child grows.

At Tayla Jayde OT, we use the wonderful Special T programme for capturing progress notes and sending homework videos to parents. These videos are very quick, easy to follow, helpful resources that our parents have access to every week.

During school holidays, we send out holiday home programmes to ensure carry over of OT and to keep your little ones busy.

We also offer comprehensive “Tayla-made” home programmes upon therapist assessment.

Your little one’s health is important, and with the current protocols in place for Covid-19, we recommend you cancel your child’s appointment with your OT and a catch up session will be scheduled in a time slot that suits you.

Yes, we do offer and recommend holiday sessions for Occupational Therapy as consistency is key for progress. However; we do wholeheartedly understand the need for a break, especially for family time.

A concerned Doctor, teacher or health professional might have spotted ‘red flags’ signalling that your child may not be developing or functioning age appropriately or your child might be displaying behaviours which are not typical for their age or developmental stage. The first step is to call or email us to chat about your concerns and book an appointment to further explore the need for Occupational Therapy and how we can best assist you and your little one.

Your child’s Occupational Therapy journey is one of consistency, effort and patience. Sometimes it can take up to one year to see measurable progress, or it can take several weeks. It is important to remember each wonderful child is different and the foundational skills may take a little longer to build and strengthen before they reach higher developmental levels.

We have a comprehensive Covid-19 screening process upon entering our OT practice; as well as sending out Covid-19 Protocol Documents before we start intervention with you and your child.

We are currently doing contact tracing and the therapist will practice in scrubs, a mask or face visor and will sanitize throughout therapy.

Any equipment used at the practice or at schools are sanitized and cleaned between each session. No cross usage of sensory equipment/materials is permitted.

Your child’s safety is our priority.
